Theo Fennell's craftsman, Simon Coldicott, won two major awards at the recent Craftsmanship and Design Council Awards, the Jewellery Oscars, for his Sterling Silver model of the classic MV Augusta 500cc racing motorcycle, on which Giacamo Agostini famously won the World Championship title seven years in succession.
Simon, who has worked with Theo Fennell for over a quarter of a century, was awarded both the Senior Award (best in show of any category) and the Senior Smallworkers and Modelmakers Award for his outstanding silver motorbike, which took over 350 hours to create, at his first time of entering.
Crafted completely by hand this masterpiece has been intricately made piece by piece down to the detailed links of the working chain, using skills and techniques gained over Simon's thirty plus years as a jeweller and goldsmith.
This fantastic achievement follows on from Theo Fennell's 2012 success when their apprentice, Philip Wilkins, won the Junior Award for his Cleopatra brooch and our setter, Murray Warner, was awarded the Senior Setter Gold Award.
Theo Fennell entered the Goldsmiths Awards for the first time last year and have now won 4 prestigious awards for only 2 pieces entered. With awards being won by their youngest member of the workshop to one of their most experienced, Theo Fennel truly do have one of the finest workshops in the world and a tribute to their commitment to craftsmanship, having their own workshop and training apprentices.
